Seton Hall University Esports proudly announces the addition of three standout scholarship recruits from Garden
State Esports (GSE), the nation’s largest scholastic esports organization. Founded
by educators in 2020, GSE has rapidly expanded opportunities for high school gamers
across New Jersey, helping them translate their passion for competitive play into
pathways for higher education and future careers. Through this partnership, Seton
Hall ensures that top esports talent from the state can continue their academic journeys
while competing at the highest collegiate level, reinforcing the university’s leadership
in esports scholarships and commitment to both academic excellence and competitive
success.
Rocket League Recruits
Gianluca Nese.
Gianluca Nese (Rockaway, NJ): A graduate of Morris Knolls High School, Nese joins the Pirates’ Rocket League squad while pursuing a degree in Finance. In addition to his esports experience,
he competed in the 100- and 400-meter sprints on his high school track team.

Matthew Bendetto.
Matthew Benedetto (Scotch Plains, NJ): Also joining the Rocket League team, Benedetto is pursuing a degree in Visual and Sound Media. He spent three years
on his high school track team, competing in hurdles and high jump, and brings that
same competitive energy to esports.
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Recruit

Joseph Lochli.
Joseph Lochli (Wanaque, NJ): A graduate of Passaic County Technical-Vocational Schools (PCTVS), Lochli joins Seton
Hall’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team. He is pursuing a dual major in Computer Science (3+2) and Data Science. Beyond
gaming, he’s an avid vinyl record collector, blending intellectual curiosity with
creative passion.
Upcoming Tryouts
Students interested in joining Seton Hall Esports will have the chance to showcase
their skills during upcoming tryouts held in Jubilee Hall, Room 524, located on the
5th floor.
- Rocket League tryouts: Tuesday, September 9 at 7 p.m.
- Overwatch 2 and League of Legends tryouts: Friday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
- Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and League of Legends tryouts: Saturday, September 13 at 2 p.m.
Interested students should complete the Esports Tryout Registration form.
