Digital travel platform Agoda has announced the ranking of Asia’s best “local destinations.” In Korea, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, ranked 8th in the highest ranking, and was selected as Korea’s representative travel destination.
Cameron Highland, Malaysia, ranked first in the local travel destination announced by Agoda. △ Thailand Khao Yai △ Indonesia Punchak △ Japan Fujikawa-guchi △ Taiwan Conding △ Vietnam Sapa △ India Munnar △ Pyeongchang County was listed at the top.
This is the result of analyzing outlying destinations with a population of less than 50,000 in eight Asian markets based on accommodation search data from February 15 to August 15.
Pyeongchang-gun is Korea’s representative lural tourism destination that combines nature and culture. Luralism refers to a trip enjoyed while experiencing rural culture. Daegwallyeong sheep ranch, called the “Korean Alps,” offers cool winds in summer and snow-covered snowscape in winter, and is considered a popular spot where you can enjoy the scenery of sheep walking on the grass throughout the four seasons.
The Hyoseok Cultural Festival is held every year in Bongpyeong-myeon, the background of the novel “When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom.” If you go to the festival venue, you can experience a variety of attractions and entertainments such as taking a walk in the buckwheat flower field, busking performances, night markets, and traditions.
Pyeongchang-gun is also famous for hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics. As you can enjoy various winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, tourists who want to experience beautiful natural scenery and various activities continue to visit.
Among domestic travel destinations, Namhae-gun along with Pyeongchang-gun is attracting attention as another Lural Tourism destination. Travelers can appreciate the 300-year-old Lee Pop Tree in Darangi Village, and they can also observe constellations at the Anggang Observatory, which has recently emerged as a night tourist attraction.
