Harrisburg community expressing frustration and concern after crash at Kipona Festival
IS RESPONDING TO THE INCIDENT. MICHAEL. WELL, JERRY, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, A SITUATION LIKE THIS PRODUCES A LOT OF PAIN, A LOT OF FEAR. AND QUITE FRANKLY, FRUSTRATION FOR THE VICTIMS AND THOSE HAVING TO DEAL WITH INJURIES FROM THIS INCIDENT. BUT THAT HURT ALSO EXTENDS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY. I WANT YOU TO TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THIS FOOTAGE RIGHT HERE THAT JUST CAME INTO OUR NEWSROOM THIS EVENING. YOU COULD SEE THIS IS OF THE INCIDENT AS THINGS WERE UNFOLDING. THIS IS ACTUALLY RIGHT AFTER THAT MINIVAN, THAT RED MINIVAN PLOWED THROUGH SOME OF THE PEOPLE IN THAT CROWD. YOU CAN EVEN SEE A LITTLE LATER ON IN THE VIDEO, A POLICE ACTUALLY RUNNING TO THAT INCIDENT TO BE ABLE TO HELP PEOPLE. AND I WILL TELL YOU, I’VE REPORTED ON SEVERAL INCIDENTS THAT HAVE HAPPENED DOWNTOWN EVENTS, I SHOULD SAY, THAT ARE GOING ON DOWN HERE. EVERYTHING IS FINE. AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN AN ACT OF VIOLENCE ENSUES AND THAT CHANGES THE SPIRIT AND THE TONE OF THE FESTIVITIES. AND WE WILL TELL YOU THAT WE SPOKE TO BUSINESSES WHO SAY THAT THAT NOT ONLY AFFECTS THE EVENT IN AND OF ITSELF, BUT THE GREATER COMMUNITY AROUND IT. THEY HAVE A NICE THING BY THE WATER COMPANY, FOOD TRUCKS AND EVERYTHING. AND THEN SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPENS. PEOPLE GET HURT, PEOPLE ARE IN THE HOSPITAL AND THEN THAT AFFECTS US. PEOPLE BEING DOWNTOWN, EVERYBODY HAVING A GOOD TIME. AND THEN JUST LIKE THAT, IT’S OVER. AND WHO KNOWS, EVENTUALLY THE CITY IS JUST GOING TO SAY WE’RE DONE BECAUSE PEOPLE KEEP GETTING HURT BECAUSE PEOPLE DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYBODY ELSE. AND ALTHOUGH THE CITY SAYS NOTHING COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO ACTUALLY PREVENT THIS, PALUMBO SAYS THAT THEY ARE, OF COURSE, PRAYING FOR THE FAMILY AND SENDING THEIR THOUGHTS AND WELL WISHES, BUT THEY ARE ALSO WAITING TO SEE IF THIS INCIDENT WILL AFFECT FUTURE EVENTS IN THE DOWNTOWN HARRISBURG.
